Llamas on board:

Coming back from a breakfast with some friends this morning I spotted the truck below as I came up to a construction delay. Two llamas being hauled somewhere. They checked me out as we waited, and I couldn't resist snapping a few photos.

No spitting, thanks goodness!

So it seems

As we come down to the actual voting in the Iowa Caucuses (which seem fairly meaningless except to media types), the Republican candidates seem to be trying to out loon each other. Not that they've been all that rational up to this point, but MAN, the crazy is getting fierce!

The difference is one of perception:

How the media views different demonstrators:
Weird, unfocused hippie.
Serious challenger of the status quo.

Emu on the Loose!

I was at work today, and before I went home I called my wife to tell her a strange tale I'd heard via email about an emu that had been seen wandering around nearby. She revealed she had encountered the large avian interloper, and even managed to catch some pictures of it, though she felt somewhat intimidated by the large fowl.

Strolling down the lane
Nice day for a walk
Dum-da-dum-dooo . . . .
Emu calling
What's down this way?
Hello in there!
Here the large avian visitor checks out our inside birds, causing them to raise quite a ruckus.

When I got home from work I had an email (emu email?) from one of our neighbors saying a young girl had lost her pet emu, which had been seen wandering around the neighborhood. There was a number to call if you saw it, so I checked and found the bird had made it home unscathed.

This is definitely still the birdhaus.

Only $1 million?

(Via Metafilter)
A toilet described as once having belonged to US author JD Salinger has been put on sale on the online auction site eBay for $1m (£644,000).

The vendor says he obtained the "used toilet commode" from a couple who now own the former home of the Catcher in the Rye author.

It comes "uncleaned and in its original condition", the ad for it states.

"Who knows how many of [his] stories were thought up and written while Salinger sat on this throne!", it adds.

The toilet comes with a letter from Joan Littlefield, attesting that the toilet was removed during renovations to her and her husband's house in Cornish, New Hampshire, formerly owned by the reclusive author.

She writes that they knew all the workmen who installed the toilet decades ago when Salinger had work done on the house.

There have been a number of bids on the item.
". . . uncleaned and in its original condition"?Uh . . . what can be said about this?

Imagine the poor schmuck who buys it, and his wife takes some bleach to it without realizing.

Oh well, never mind . . . .

"Toking" with Lawrence Welk

(Via WorldWideWadio)
Larry calls this a "modern spiritual." Well, I guess you could say that if you're a rastafarian. And the way she's bouncing on his lap makes me wonder what she's inspiring in him . . . .

This is taking reality TV too far:

(From Huffington Post)
NEW YORK — "The Early Show" co-anchor Harry Smith is scheduled to have a colonoscopy Wednesday, with live reports planned as he undergoes the procedure at a New York hospital.

CBS says it will be the first time an anchor has had a colonoscopy live on network television.
Uh, can we hope this is not a trend, and it will also be the LAST time?

Two words I didn't expect to see widely used in the main stream media:

autoerotic asphyxiation

. . . . and what an embarrassing way to go, grasshopper!

So much worse than we thought:

(Via GQ)

As bad as everything that was happening during the Bush administration seemed, it was so much worse than we knew. Here are actual covers from briefings issued by Donald Rumsfeld's office back in the day:

God, I am so grateful these insane creeps are out of there! This kind of shit rivals anything to come out of Nazi Germany.

Holy . . . .

This year's "Snakes on a Plane"?

Somehow, "We're dealing with a menace" said by Lorenzo Lamas doesn't hold a candle to Samuel L. Jackson shouting "Get these mutha-fucking snakes off this mutha-fucking plane!!!"

Eerie Christmas decorations

Along the road leading inland from our coastal home is a farmhouse where the owners decorate the place with each season to the max. As you might expect, Christmas is a real amazing display.

With a time exposure, it almost looks like the Nativity is ablaze!!!

The Wise Men will have no trouble finding this place.

Scooby Doo keeps watch over the Christ child.
