2013 Gurley Lane Neighborhood Apple Juicing

My wife sorts through the boxes of apples.A wheelbarrow full ready for the press.Running the 75 year old press, modified with an electric engine.Bessy cuts out bad spots in preparation for the masher. There are a lot of apples this year! The press at rest.
After pressing the pulp goes into the compost pile. Many hands make light work. You can almost smell them . . . .More boxes from the shed.Squish!Catching the juice.
Checking the next batch. They start on the tree . . . .. . . . but they end in the juicer. The neighborhood brand.Push 'em through and mash 'em down . . . .Our rewards in the fridge!
For the last few years our neighbors who have an apple orchard have invited everyone over to help juice their apple harvest. It is a fun and friendly way to share the bounty. Here are some photos of this year's event. (Click on the thumbnails to see a larger version.)
