I had the misfortune to see "comedian" Dennis Miller's appearance on The Daily Show, and I must say, it confirmed every bad thing I have thought about this sorry excuse for a laugh monger, besides giving me some new things to be repulsed by. But two things occured to me, beyond the obvious low quality of what passes for political comedy in Miller's world:
1. With all the talk about how the left lacks civility in it's political commentary, Miller certainly is no slouch in being vile and contemptuous in his blathering. Saying things like "political cartoonists love Nancy Pelosi" because they can just use photographs of her, or that Senator Robert Byrd reminds him of the old grandfather at the family gatherings who you have to keep an eye on so he "doesn't eat his own shit" . . . well, that certainly sets the bar pretty low for what civil discourse is.
2. Why doesn't Jon Stewart call him out for this sort of shit? Stewart cackled like a chimp during Miller's spew, not even standing up to his refutation of global warming. And from what I recall, he reacted the same way the last time Miller was on the show. Did Stewart lose a bet to Miller or something? It was a sorry excuse for hosting the show.
To be fair, Miller rambles on nonstop, like the school bully throwing a tantrum at the playground while the other kids cower behind the swing set. But come on, Jon, you wouldn't allow a politician to come onto your show and just take over like that. Shame on you!
