Music Soothes

We just got home from a concert by Tracy Grammer and Jim Henry at one of our local inns. Boy, did I need that! It was a wonderful evening of music and laughs, done in a way that only these performers could ever do.

I've seen Tracy several times over the last five years, the first with her then partner, the late Dave Carter. His songwriting was incredible, crossing into genius territory, and her sweet voice and lovely fiddle playing were a perfect counterpoint.

Now she's with a new partner, and Jim Henry is a fantastic guitarist. He played a great interpretation of Richard Thompson's 1952 Vincent Black Lightning, which is one of my all time favorite songs, but he accompanies Tracy in a way that is different from Dave's style, but also very complimentary. Plus he has a very funny stage presence.

Tracy has always been a joy to see, and this night was no exception. She seems to have truly found a new voice for herself since Dave's death, and while she still sings a lot of his songs, she now makes them her own in a way that is quite different from when she was with him.

Together they gave us a night to remember. Check them out if you get the chance, and visit Tracy's web site at www.tracygrammer.com.
