I made a big boo boo . . . .

I haven't posted anything lately, due to hitting what can best be described as an "emotional bottom". With the leaving of our daughter and grand daughter and the loss of one of our beloved cockatiels, my heart had felt very heavy. Then last week, I began having some problems with the iPhoto program, where all of my digital pictures were stored. I tried a couple of ways to repair it, finally reinstalling the program. That seemed to do the trick, as I was able to view the pictures again.

Then I made my big mistake. I thought I could expedite the import of the pictures (which numbered over 3500) by changing the iPhoto library file name. A window popped up asking me if I really wanted to do this, and I punched the "yes" option. In a blink of the eye, 10 gbs of photos were wiped out, as the old file was over-written by a new, empty one. This included all the digital photos of my grand daughter from the last couple of years, some stuff for my work---everything.

I was absolutely heartbroken. Of course, I had no full backup of these priceless items (with the possible exception of a DVD I burned about a year ago that I cannot find now), and so they were a total loss. I've gone to our local Mac tech, who tried searching for them, but due to the file being overwritten, it looks like retrieving any of them is impossible.

The plain and simple fact of the matter is that this is all due to my own hurriedness and stupidity. If I had taken the time to read the window that I responded "yes" to, I would have realized not to do that. And if I'd done regular backups of my stuff, I'd at least have some of the priceless images still.

So, as you can see, I have been given an incredible humbling at the hands of my own impatience and arrogance. I can tell you this: A HUMBLE PERSON BACKS UP THEIR SHIT!!!
