Grand Finish to the Festival

The music festival I work for had a grand finish last night, with a concert version of Gershwin's "Porgy & Bess". With a full orchestra, a sixty member chorus, and solists in the leads from around the state, the production was quite awesome. Gershwin's swirling melodies were played vigorously, giving new life to songs like "Summertime" and "It Ain't Necessarily So", the latter of which got an ovation which it seemed would not stop. Quite a spectacle, all in all.

That's it for another year. Now begins preparation for next year's show. There's a bittersweet feeling to it, both of relief that the push of energy and effort which reaches a fever pitch during the festival is over, and a sadness to see the curtain come down on such a fun and happy enterprise. The variety of performers this year was astounding, and the quality of the music in the concerts I was able to attend was amazing. While I am exhausted and worn to a frazzle, I feel sorry to see it end.

Now the rest of my life waits for attention which I haven't been able to give it for a while due to the amount of focus the festival requires. On to that!
