And the beat goes on . . . .

The music festival I work for is coming into its home stretch. Twelve days and nights of an incredible variety of music, and last night was no exception. Les Percussions de Guinee, a drum and dance group from West Africa brought its pulse and throb to our performance tent. It's hard to find words to adequately describe the basic connection such music gives to our souls, our origins. Even pictures seem like a bare glimpse of the reality of it, but here are a few.Vibrant, kinetic, and sensual, this group must be experianced to be fully appreciated. I had no idea drums could be so melodic and soothing, while at the same time rousing the blood and making my feet and hands move.

I am going though some pretty heavy emotional stuff right now, and I found this music immensely healing and cathartic. The effect of it surprised me. If you get a chance to see Les Percussions de Guinee, take it!
