A New Tool for the Tool Box

I haven't been posting quite as regularly lately (as if someone besides me cares), but I haven't been idle. I thought I'd pass on a recommendation for what I think is one of the best hard rock CDs I've heard in a while: Tool's "10,000 Days". It's as sharp as a bayonet, and as tight as a drunk on a three day bender. It makes me wish I could turn it up EVEN HIGHER, and still is a melodic and lyrical feast. Maynard James Keenan can shatter glass with his vocals, but he is equally capable of reducing his voice to a whisper, and still deliver an incredible intensity of emotions.

The CD kicks off with "Vicarious", a high energy polemic against the consumer/spectator nature of American society, where culture is force fed through the boob tube. This is rock at its most violently and ecstatically energetic, with enough power to set your speakers on fire. Yet there's a progressive rock tilt to the sturm und drang, and a vibrant intellect simmers just below the heavy metal surface.

There's so much in this release that I can only say: go buy the sucker. Its a tour de force from the guy behind both Tool and A Perfect Circle, and there are carnal delights and spiritual goodies to be had here.
