Back to work!

After a gluttonous holiday such as Thanksgiving, it is truly difficult to get back in the swim of things returning to the job on Monday. I know that sounds damn trite, but it just feels so true. It seems as if the rhythm of life just doesn't allow for the rhythm of work, at least not in any way that feels normal.

Anyway, we are now in the midst of the big "between the holidays" slide. Thanksgiving behind us, and Christmas looming ahead. Despite all the supposed "Anti-Christmas" bias, there is no way to escape it. Hell, it starts before Halloween in some places, flashing lights and carols galore. As I kid, I loved Christmas, with it's lights and smells of evergreen and spices. Then, as an adult, I fell away from all that, until recently when the embrace of family has returned to my life.

Bottom line: it is not about the materialistic trappings, but rather about the true sentiment underlying the holidays. It is not even really religious to me, but rather spiritual in its origins and its result. I begin to feel somehow more connected to this world and the people in it. And that is a good thing.
