I just got home from a concert by a performer named Brian Joseph, and no, I hadn't heard of him before. Let me recommend to you that you do yourself a favor and check him out. He writes funny, personally insightful and politically savvy songs, and he has an onstage persona that is warm and hip (with enough vulnerability so that you know he is the real thing.) I felt like someone who saw John Prine when he was starting out in the early '70s must have felt, and that is an extreme compliment. He ended with an encore of Steve Earle's "Christmastime in Washington", which didn't hurt him a bit in my eyes, either. We need some new folk singers, if I dare say it, and he's just the thing! If you've got RealPlayer, you can check out some of his songs here.
