Thanks for stopping by!

I have a bit of code embedded in my blog which allows me to track both the number of visitors and the location of the visitors that this site gets. I've had some pretty cool things happen a couple of times---twice now people who were subjects of my posts
actually responded, and these were people I didn't know!---but by in large the vast majority of visitors are bots; automated trollers checking out the blog for whatever useful information they may be able to harvest. These visits typically last for less than a second, and often there are repeat visits from some of them. Many originate in
foreign countries, like Brazil and the Netherlands. One of the scarier ones comes from the House of Representatives.

It's a wonder. How many actual live net surfers stop by and check my little piece of the world wide web out? Not many. I think I'm probably not all that interesting to most of the netizens out there. It has given me a better sense of just how noticeable a little blog can be, though. It ain't like a billboard, I'll tell ya that. More like a message in a bottle, cast into the ever moving waves. Who knows if it will ever be found? All in all, it's a crap shoot. And when it is found, it's just a matter of luck if the finder actually reads the message, rather than just tossing it back into the sea.

And did you find my message?
