The public option

Instead of a public option for health care, how about a public option for government. Here's how it would work:

Everyone would get a chunk of the money that has been talked about to be given to reforming health care (I'm seeing some figures around $1 trillion). It would be dived equally for every household earning less than $50,000 per year. The only limitation is that the money would have to be used to buy influence with our elected representatives.

This would both level the playing field somewhat, and make our so-called democracy a lot more representative. Plus it would keep our representatives so busy scrambling to respond to bribes . . . er, I mean CONTRIBUTIONS . . . that they wouldn't have time to fuck up the legislation they are supposed to administrate on our behalf.

Seems like a good idea to me . . . .
