Blackberries are coming!

Were we live, it's so wonderful to take a walk outside and find treats just hanging on the trees and bushes. The blackberries are starting to come into ripeness, and it looks like a good crop this year.

We walk out our back door or down the lane and find bags full of these juicy morsels, just waiting for the picking. We stick them in the freezer (at least the ones that make it back to the house), and they provide a tasty memory of the preceding fall.

There are even some places where plum trees are offering their fruits, and neighbors who say "Help yourself!" Living in the suburbs where I grew up, I thought such things came from the grocery store.

These are the blessings of a life in the woods. Yet we get so much more. It is a life closer to the spirit of this world, and a part of the beating heart of the Earth. It is a wonderful life.
