A shroud of smoke

A lightning storm that hit Northern California last week started a mass of fires, some of which are pretty close to where we live. Some friends in the areas near us were forced to evacuate, and the fear level has been amped up a notch for many of us. These pictures of the sun last night show a bit of the difference in the atmosphere, as the colors turn coppery before the sun disappears well before hitting the horizon line.

It's very eerie, and even now, as the sun comes up, it is shrouded by smoke. Most of the nearby fires are now under control, but the State's resources are stretched thin. No National Guard to augment the fire fighting forces. Hmmm, where could they be?
