In our own backyard (another in a series)

One of the things I have to remind myself of occasionally is how much beauty there is right outside my back door. For example, here's one of my wife's Teddy Bear Sunflowers:

And here is one example of the many juicy wild blackberries growing right near our clothesline. We've picked a couple of quarts already just by strolling and picking.

Below is a flower on one of our potato plants. I didn't even know they got flowers, but there you go!

And here is a part of the harvest from our squash plants; acorn squash, both green and yellow. That's my wife's hand. It's wonderful that we are able to grow at least some of our own food: squash, lettuce, green beans, potatoes, and herbs like basil, oregano, and chives.

I hope that I will not lapse into taking all this for granted. The best antidote for the cynicism and negativity in this world is to open up your eyes and take a look around, eh?
