Why does this feel so empty?

It's hard to get very happy about all the crap around the Libby indictments. This is, after all, merely a symptom of one of the deeper problems which infect our country right now: people who feel that the "ends justifies the means", that they are somehow above the law, that whatever their goals are, they are willing to walk over ANYONE who stands in the way of them getting there.

This is a byproduct of our corporate structure and tactics, to be sure. And the present administration is nothing if not a direct reflection of our corporate leadership in this day and age. I truly believe that they think nothing is wrong in lying, breaking the law, and endangering or even killing others if it will help them accomplish whatever it is they want to do. And these people are still in charge of this country right now, the Libby indictments notwithstanding.

It is a direct line from the Enron scandals to Plamegate. "Kenny-Boy", Scooter and their ilk only differ from the Cheneys, Bushes, and Rumsfelds in one way: they got caught. And that is a situation which will not improve with the indictment of one of the operatives of this crew.

There may be more to come. I certainly hope there is. But I am not celebrating at this time. Our country is in dire straits, and the journey out of those waters has not even begun yet. In fact, I am hoping that this will not divert us from the REAL problems and the other criminals who still hold power.
